A Little Bit of Music
I suppose there is no such thing as a little bit of music; but the truth is music has never been my whole life. I know some people that music is their whole life. I love music, but I don't listen to popular radio stations. I have always loved musicals and Disney films. I know for a fact that those pieces of music have influenced my life. I do not consider myself a performer. I was always just one of the crowd.
My parents have been involved in music their whole lives. My mother, Janice Clancy, was singing from the time she was three years old and its always been one of her great joys. My father, Patrick Clancy, played four instruments and also sang, so, you could say music is in my blood. I have been practicing since I was about a year old and could sing along with my parents Sunday School that they taught. My husband Thomas Akers also sings.
My mother is a soprano, my Father a tenor, and my sister is an alto. When we would go on car trips we would sing in four part harmony. Some of my favorite times were singing along with my family to an old tape in the car, we would sing some of our favorite songs. As I got older I started singing with children's choir and then moved up to middle school where I took a brief hiatus and started playing the viola. I was going to be like my dad in the fact that he played four instruments. To my credit I started with viola, and have done hand-bells and learned how to play the beginning bars of Fur' Elise on the keyboard/piano.
I returned to choir in high school and discovered I had the ability to conjoin with so many other voices easily. I started singing in my church's choir and then in college choir and realized that I wanted to do more solo work and took private lessons. If anyone says that they do not need lessons they probably do and I benefited a great deal. There are still minor hangups now and again but it makes it possible to sing even if you have laryngitis. I have been helping to lead worship at my church for the last year and a half and now feel comfortable enough to say, "Yes, I can do this!". I hope that you will support me as I sing my little bit of music and thank you for visiting my page.
